 Sun Is Finally Shining!

After all the rains we've had, the sun finally came out. It came out a bit Tuesday afternoon so that evening I went out and got the lawn mowed. Boy it sure looks a lot better. I planted some Hen 'n Chicks in my front yard last night. They look nice out there. My marigolds are looking a little better too. I'm going to go out and put some Miracle Grow on all of them. That will make 'em grow. Thank God for Miracle Grow!! Tomorrow is my birthday and it's also payday, so I think I'm going to go buy some more plants and a hanging planter. My brother-in-law took my sis and I out to the cemetary yesterday morning. Linda felt a little better so we decided to go. I was a little upset that no one had put anything on my mom's grave for Memorial Day so her grave was bare. We had relatives put flowers on Grandma and Grandpa's grave and they know Mom is buried there, so they could have put something there. Well she has some flowers on hers now! I would like to plant something over there but don't really know what to plant. Does anyone have any ideas? I don't want something that will be too big or anything. I would just like to plant something small and with some color. Well I need more coffee and got to get Hera out and get ready for work so I'll try and catch up with you all later.

 Drug Problem

I never looked at a drug problem this way...I like the analogy!

The other day, someone at a store in our town read that a Methamphetamine lab had been found in an old farmhouse in the
adjoining county and he asked me a rhetorical question.

"Why didn't we have a drug problem when you and I were growing up?"

I replied, "I had a drug problem when I was young:I was drug to church on Sunday morning. I was drug to church for weddings and funerals.I was drug to family reunions and community socials no matter the weather.I was drug by my ears when I was disrespectful to adults.I was also drug to the woodshed when I disobeyed my parents, told a lie, brought home a bad report card, did not speak with respect, spoke ill of the teacher or the preacher, or if I didn't put forth my best effort in everything that was asked of me.I was drug to the kitchen sink to have my mouth washed out with soap if I uttered a profanity.I was drug out to pull weeds in mom's garden and flower beds and cockleburs out of dad's fields.I was drug to the homes of family, friends, and neighbors to help out some poor soul who had no one to mow the yard, repair the clothesline, or chop some firewood; and, if my mother had ever known that I took a single dime as a tip for this kindness, she would have drug me back to the woodshed. Those drugs are still in my veins and they affect my behavior in everything I do, say, or think. They are stronger than cocaine, crack, or heroin; and, if some of today's children had this kind of drug problem, America would be a better place.God bless the parents who drugged us!"

 A Poem For Memorial Day

Make My Death a Canticle for Peace
Copyright by
Nicholas Gordon

Make my death a canticle for peace.
Evil has no greater friend than anger,
Making ready converts to its cause.
On me think but of beauty as you pause,
Remembering the service of a stranger
In giving life to purchase your release.
Armies live according to their art.
Love of life at times requires death,
Defending what would else find hungry jaws.
As you enjoy the gift of every breath,
Yet mourn for me with morning in your heart.
