We are supposed to write a little something today about our thoughts of the war in Iraq. I personally, was against going there in the first place. We went there on misinformation and America has been lied to from the beginning. We have many women and men who have died. The day of September 11th was a horrible day, one none of us will ever forget. I know I won't for as long as I live! We were told that Osama Bin Laden and Al Quida was responsible. Then why I wonder, did we not go after him. Instead we get information of weapons of mass destruction being in Iraq and we end up in a war there. We have been lied to so much, I don't believe anything our government tells us. We have been there all these years and people are dying everyday. I don't think it's any safer there now than it was. I certainly don't feel any safer here. We still have terrorists among us in the United States that could very well strike anyday. That does not make me feel safe. I heard one night on a news program where they were talking to an Iraqi citizen and they said they don't feel any safer either. In fact they wish we would leave their country. Saddam Hussein is no longer there. They have a new leader. We should leave and we should leave soon! That's another thing they have lied to us about, about how long our men and women would be there. They keep extending the time and I just hope to god, it does not become years like VietNam! I live a few miles away from an Army base here in Kansas.(Fort Riley) There have been quite a few soldier's from there sent to Iraq. It is the home of the "Big Red One". There have been quite a few die too which is very sad and many are just young kids! A friend of mine was there not long ago to get her ID card and she noticed soldiers who will be going to Iraq, getting things in order to go.They were getting their finances and such in order in case they don't return. My friend said she walked out in tears feeling so bad for these soldiers. Here is a poem that is appropriate I think for today.
THE FINAL INSPECTION
The soldier stood and faced God,
Which must always come to pass.
he hoped his shoes were shining,
Just as brightly as his brass.
Step forward now, you soldier,
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To My Church have you been true?"
The soldier squared his shoulders and said,
"No, Lord, I guess I ain't.
Because those of us who carry guns,
Can't always be a saint.
I've had to work most Sundays,
And at times my talk was tough.
And sometimes I've been violent,
Because the world is awfully rough.
But, I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep...
Though I worked a lot of overtime,
When the bills got just too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God, forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.
I know I don't deserve a place,
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around,
Except to calm their fears.
If you've a place for me here, Lord,
It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't, I'll understand."
There was a silence all around the throne,
Where the saints had often trod.
As the soldier waited quietly,
For the judgment of his God.
"Step forward now, you soldier,
You've borne your burdens well.
Walk peacefully on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in Hell."

Remember, it is the Soldier, not the reporter
Who has given us the freedom of the press.
It is the Soldier, not the poet,
Who has given us the freedom of speech.
It is the Soldier Who salutes the flag,
Who serves beneath the flag, and
Whose coffin is draped by the flag,
Who allows the protester to burn the flag.
Please pray for our men and women currently serving our country and pray for their safe return home!
Well now you have my opinion of the war. I'm sure there are some who will disagree and that is OK. We all have our own opinions. There is nothing wrong with that.
